Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority
The Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) was recently formed to address transportation needs in the El Paso region. The RMA is governed by a seven-member board of directors. The chairman is an El Paso resident, appointed by the Governor of Texas. The other six voting members are appointed by the El Paso City Council.
The Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority is a local, independent transportation agency that can finance, acquire, build, operate, maintain and expand transportation projects. These projects may be tolled or non-tolled. The Texas Legislature authorized the creation of RMAs in 2001 to provide a new, more flexible way to address local transportation needs. RMAs can use local dollars to leverage revenue bonds to build new roads more quickly than roads can be built using traditional funding. In addition, the RMA has the flexibility to implement projects that cover the entire region, including Mexico and New Mexico.
El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization
The El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) coordinates with TxDOT and other agencies to develop and fund transportation plans and studies, including environmental impact and air quality studies. The MPO takes a regional look at transportation planning and works with residents, neighborhood groups, local governments and other agencies to reflect the concerns of the people of El Paso County.
